The EZ-Prop® Difference

A mouth prop has a job to do: help hold the mouth open. Resistance to compression matters.

In Plasteel's reported comparison, the Original EZ-Prop® reached an average peak compression force of 74.7 lbf, compared with 21.3 lbf for a competing mouth prop. That is approximately 3.5 times the average peak compression force in the three supplied readings per product.

Put function first

The products were tested from the same starting height, with the same positioning and final gap. The supplied comparison reported the following readings:

• EZ-Prop®: 74 lbf, 75 lbf, and 75 lbf, averaging 74.7 lbf
• Competing mouth prop: 16 lbf, 22 lbf, and 26 lbf, averaging 21.3 lbf

Weight per 100 pieces

• EZ-Prop®: 0.275 lb
• Competing mouth prop: 0.105 lb

The EZ-Prop® weighed 2.62 times as much per 100 pieces in the reported comparison. Weight alone does not establish strength or density.

The difference is in your hands

In a separate qualitative hand demonstration using the same thumb-and-index-finger grip, the competing mouth prop snapped in half, while the demonstrator was unable to break the EZ-Prop® using that method.

Testing notes

The compression results are manufacturer-reported testing. Peak force was recorded during compression to a preset stop. Approximately 20 samples per product reportedly gave similar results, but the averages and 3.5x ratio shown here use only the three readings listed above.

The hand demonstration was separate from the instrumented compression test. Applied force was not measured, and the demonstration is not a clinical-performance, failure-load, or unbreakability rating.
